Healthy Brownies

1- In a bowl, mix

3 tsp flaxmeal

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup cacao powder

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper powder (optional)

2- In a blender, pulverize

3/4 cup plant-based milk

3 tbsp raw cashews

10-15 dates*

1/4 cup apple sauce

2 tsp vanilla extract

3- Pour mixture in with the dry ingredients and mix

4- Add 1/2 cup chopped nuts or unsweetened chocolate chips (optional)

5- Pour in a 9X9 oven safe container (covered base with parchment paper)

6- Cook at 350 fahrenheit for 17 minutes

7- Use the edges of the parchment paper to lift the brownie from the container. Let it cool down for a while before cutting them up.. if you can ;)!

Makes about 12 brownie squares.

No oil, no salt, no sugar, no animal products, no processed foods.. and all the goodness of traditional brownies!

If you have a very sweet tooth, you may add more dates in the first mix and some chocolate chips would certainly bring these brownies to a whole other level. Personally, I love adding a touch of cayenne pepper. It adds something that you just can’t describe and it makes me want to eat the whole batch in one sitting.

*I think this recipe is delicious with 10 dates, but if you have more of a sweet tooth, I recommend you put in 15 instead.

Enjoy!
